Before their diagnosis, the couple had visited crowded Australian hotspots including Bondi Beach and the Sydney Opera House - raising fears that others were infected.
The opera house was today trying to track down 207 people who could have come into contact with the couple at a concert on Saturday night.
'People who have come in close contact with Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson will now need to self isolate and quarantine,' the premier of Queensland said.
The A-list couple are now in isolation at Gold Coast University Hospital where health officials say they are in a 'stable condition'.
'Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive,' Hanks said.

'Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks' will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?' Hanks wrote.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said Hanks was 'tested early this morning, very early, and once everyone was in the news was delivered by Baz and then everyone went home.'
Hanks is the first major Hollywood star to publicly state that he has the virus that has sickened more than 125,000 people worldwide and killed more than 4,600.
He touched down in Gold Coast on January 26 for the film, which is still in pre-production meaning cameras have not started rolling yet.
However, Tom's son Chet was keen to stress that Tom and Rita are not actually feeling that sick and are in the best hands.
He said in an Instagram video: 'Yeah, it’s true. My parents got coronavirus. Crazy.'
But he said that he had spoken to them and they were 'not tripping' about their diagnosis, adding: 'they are fine and they are not even that sick.'
